CURIOUS & RARE tells the fascinating true story of English paleontologist Mary Anning (1799-1847), who made ground breaking discoveries of Jurassic era marine reptile fossils and influenced Darwin. It is the story of a self-taught girl who grew into a woman who could hold her own in the male dominated field of paleontology, all despite the hardships of extreme poverty, the disapproval of the Church of England, the condescension of the scientific community, the confines of nineteenth century society, the vicious gossip of her town, romantic heartbreak, her untimely death, and all efforts to obscure and take credit for her contributions.
